It's still the early in January so it's not too late to share our reflection on this past year right? This first week, we slowly got back into our groove, focused on routine, and spent some quality family time thinking about or plans for the year ahead. But before I get to that, we want to share about what a great year we had that kicked off with two baby showers from our families and friends, my sister's marriage to a wonderful man, and of course the birth of our son! We also celebrated Jack's first Christmas with my family in Michigan. It truly felt like a joyous year and we're excited for the adventures to come!
Jack got to ride the Q line for the first time as we went from Midtown to Downtown Detroit where we watched throws of people ice skating at Campus Martius right next to the giant Christmas tree!
As always, the vacation went by fast, but I met some goals for the end of the year including:
We spent NYE relaxing at home after all the travel, celebrations and teething troubles, but below you can see photos of our trip to Michigan this holiday season!
Santa was at Somerset Collection so we took Jack - it actually went really well, but the photographer had some issues getting his flash to go off, so it took a bit of time at which point Jack started losing it because he was overly tired and due for a nap! Otherwise, he was indeed a very good boy!
Gal pal time took place at Toasted Oak, located inside the Baronette hotel where a few years back our family and friends stayed when they came for our wedding. It was good to be back, and honestly it didn't feel like it had been over 2 years since I'd been there. The "Northville Bags" took over the longest table at the restaurant where we had a lovely server who catered to our varied nutritional diets and even stepped up to take several photos for us! Right after brunch we did the White Elephant gift exchange which brought us several laughs - particularly when Karen picked a gift that was a photo album of the gang on a the one trip she did not attend.
There is something about seeing old friends right? Nothing changes even though so much time passes. These ladies are gold.
Jack also got to spend a lot of time with his grandparents - all of whom let him grab their noses, glasses, and smack their faces with his chubby hands. Little man had lots of laughs with all of them.
This is definitely a Christmas we'll never forget!
We also made it to the Detroit Institute of Arts with Ilse and Jon, who showed us all of the classic works, the Diego Rivera murals, the Warhols, Picassos, Rembrants, Van Goghs, etc that are housed just next door to where they live! What an amazing museum - with a great restaurant too!
In short, we were very grateful for the time we had with family and friends this past December - we spent it the best way one can as we said farewell to a year of big events! And now, on to the next one. No pressure 2019, you just have a lot to live up to.
Welcome to Details & Highlights! My name is Marjorie and this is my little online journal. It began as our wedding website, which I then revamped and kept as a way to record our adventures and memories.
