Since we always travel for the holidays, I've always been a little bit of a Scrooge when it comes to decorating - why spend money and time on things we won't actually get to enjoy very much since we'll be gone?! Well, of course things have taken a 180 turn now that Jackie Boy is here! Bring on the lights, tinsel, tree and ornaments because Santa Claus (or Santa Paws) is coming to town!
This year, we're going all out. We went out to chop down our own tree at Snickers Gap Tree Farm in Virginia - they provide the saw, but you do the work and load it up on to your car. It was a lot of fun! For Christmas 2018, we went with a Douglas Fir, and next year we may go with the Colorado Blue Spruce. Pete and Jolene were on a mission from the get go - it had to be straight and full, have a perfect point for the star topper, not too wide because we live in a small apartment, and have enough clearance down below for presents. And they did a pretty great job hunting down the perfect tree for our home.
We lucked out with a beautiful day, not too cold - not too hot - not too wet. It was a tough choice, should we go with the blue spruce or the classic green tree? There was a lot of back and forth between the two...but eventually, Lumberjack Pete chopped the tree that Jolene claimed for the family.
The tree farm also has a location where families can get some eats and hot cider while their tree is prepped to be tied up for their journeys home. They also have a beautiful vintage Ford truck - where we obviously posed for our first Family Christmas photo! If only we could take that truck home with us too! What a beaut.
This is definitely going to be a family tradition for us. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Throughout the years, we've gotten some very beautiful milestone ornaments from Pete's grandmother, Nan, as well as a few official White House ones so there wasn't much else we had to get to decorate it. Pete did order Jack and Jolene's stockings and they arrived on Saint Nicolas Day - December 6th. More photos to come in a following post! (We have to finish decorating it!!!)
Welcome to Details & Highlights! My name is Marjorie and this is my little online journal. It began as our wedding website, which I then revamped and kept as a way to record our adventures and memories.
