Hi folks! Jolene here, talking about what I think is the best time of the year - April with spring flowers, happy colors, cool weather in which I can run and not overheat quickly (us Halbrooks don't take to heat very well...humid summers are almost unbearable). I know what you're all thinking, Baby Brother is coming soon, but let me begin by saying that we, in our family, ring in April by celebrating MY BIRTHDAY first! Then mom's, then baby bro's, unless he comes early...Just this past weekend, was a fun-filled time for me, my mom and dad. At least one day of the weekend is generally dedicated to "Family Adventure", and for my birthday weekend we ventured into the business district to experience some public art installations - we trotted to exterior art exhibits about structures from past Burning Man events! Check out the pictures . . . And if you don't know about Burning Man, it's an event held every year in the middle of nowhere, where hippies, artists, engineers, architects and environmentalists get together for a psychodelic concert/camping weekend of art/self expression. Mom and dad later went to the Renwick to check out some more of that weird art and said it was pretty cool. I don't like confined spaces with lots of people, only service dogs can handle that kind of situation, so I didn't go to that part. But at the outside exhibits I got to see some pretty interesting things - a giant bear made out of pennies, giant crows that I dared not spook like I did the pigeons on the sidewalk, a giant human face (Maya Angelou) that started talking when Dad climbed behind its head to push the button, a Mayan Temple inspired sculpture and a geometric thingamabob. If you're in town, go check them out - it makes for a nice walk and they provided maps around the city so you can easily find them. Anyways, I'm 2 years old now, a big girl and I like walking in the city with my fam. There are so many places to discover, smell and explore! The Friday before my birthday (which was Monday, April 2nd), my dad took me to Rock Creek Park where I got to wade in the creek, spooking fish, catching a ball, and played with other outdoorsy pooches. For Easter Sunday, the Bunny got me a chicken flavored Bene bone to chew on and a squeaky squishy tennis ball - seriously the best. It's so loud, everyone can hear me coming when I squeak it. Hopefully baby brother likes the sound as much as I do!! As for my birthday present, I got a ... wait for it...TUFFY RING! They say it's indestructible, but I bet you I can destroy my pink leopard print donut by my next birthday. I bet you! This company makes really fun toys that last longer than your average toy for really tough players - and the ring shape of this particular one makes it great for a game of tug of war! Let me know if I can interest you in a game... This weekend, we're going to another art exhibit on the mall that is all about cars! Keep your eyes peeled for some photos of that excursion on the instagrams...
Oh, I forgot! For my special dinner, my personal chef (dad) made me a chicken pumpkin croquette meal. Mmmm it was so good, I can still taste it. I'd say, April is turning out pretty great for me, I hope it is for all of you too.
